PSAI President returns to PIDS after 18 months of service to the NSCB


Dr. Jose Ramon Albert, PSAI President for 2014-2015, ended his stint as Secretary General of the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) on February 9, 2014. He has been on secondment from the Philippine Institute for Development Studies where he has now returned as Senior Research Fellow specializing on social and welfare statistics and policies.

Call for Nominations to the 2014 PSAI Awards


Nominations to the 2014 PSAI Lifetime Achievement Award and PSAI Outstanding Service Award are now being accepted by the PSAI Search and Awards Committee. Deadline of submission of nominations is on 20 September 2014. Nominations may be sent either to the PSAI office (Room 214, Room 214, Philippine Social Science Center Bldg., Commonwealth Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City 1101) or through email to psai.sec@gmail.com and wtan@bsp.gov.ph. The awards will be presented at the PSAI Annual meeting and Christmas party on December 2014.

Attached are the nomination forms which contain the procedure of selection of awardees and qualifications of nominees.

NSCB Sec-Gen Albert leads PSAI Officers and Board Members for 2014-2015


Dr. Jose Ramon "Toots" Albert, Secretary-General of the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB), has been elected President of the Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. (PSAI) for 2014-2015. He succeeds Ms. Nieves L. Osorio, Civil Service Commission (CSC) Commissioner and Career Executive Service Board (CESB) Chair. As Immediate Past President, Comm. Osorio will still serve as Ex-Officio Member of the PSAI Executive Committee. Other ExeCom members for 2014-2015 include Dr. Ana Maria L. Tabunda, Professor of the UP School of Statistics (UPSS), who serves as Vice-President; Mr. Winecito L. Tan, Deputy Director of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Corporate Planning Office, who serves as Secretary, and; Deputy Governor Diwa C. Guinigundo for the Monetary Stability Sector of the BSP, who serves as Treasurer.

Milestones


The Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. deeply mourns the passing away of :

DOLORES (DOLLY) SAMSON SMITH, (known in the Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. as the former Dolores S. Acayan), retired statistics faculty member of the University of Connecticut and longtime resident of Willowbrook Road, Storrs, CT passed away on November 8, 2013. She was born in the Philippines, held a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in statistics from the University of the Philippines. She taught mathematics at the university, worked as a statistician for the Philippine government, represented the Philippines at statistical conferences in the Far East, India, and Europe, became a British citizen and lived abroad with her late husband, Hugh Fairfield Smith, who was a statistical advisor and consultant for the United Nations.
