E. Region 10

The PSA-Iligan City Chapter, Inc. was finally granted by the Securities and Exchange Commission based in Cagayan de Oro City the Certificate of Registration on 13 October, 2006. The first activity co-sponsored by the PSA-Iligan is the Third Statistics Congress hosted by the Northern Mindanao State Institute of Science and Technology (NORMISIST) in Balanghai Convention Center in Butuan City on 9-10 November, 2006. There were two plenary speakers: Dr. Salvador A. Aves, NSO 10 Regional Director and Director Gervacio C. Selda, from SRTC. There were two parallel sessions for paper presentation for the Government and other sectors group and the Academe totaling to 16 papers. The theme of the Congress was “Natural Resources Statistics of Mindanao: Sustainability and Development”. This Congress was well attended by one hundred forty participants coming from different provinces of Mindanao. The Local government of General Santos City and the MSU-Dadiangas will be hosting the 4th Statistics Congress in 2007 with PSA-Iligan City Chapter as the main sponsor. the theme will be in tune with the National Congress in Statistics in October, 2007. In order to select papers for NCS coming from mindanao, the schedule for this activity must be in May or June, 2007 as announced during the 2006 Congress. The local PSA is also planning to conduct a quarterly conference next year so that there will a venue for the members to meet and be updated with new trends in Statistics and data management. Local and National experts will be invited to serve as Speakers for this event.
