The Philippine Statistical Association (PSA), holds its Mid-Year Conference for 2008. The Conference will focus on the informal sector, its framework and measurement issues, the situationer and the contribution of the sector to the economy. The informal sector covers self-employed workers who operate subsistence livelihood or businesses and without paid employees. These workers operate outside government regulations and are not covered by social protection schemes normally provided to workers in the formal sector. The informal sector includes activities such as ambulant vending, alternative transport services, home-based and home-services, and agricultural works. The conference is open to members and non-members of PSA from government agencies, academic institutions, the banking community, the business sector, NGOs, and the media, who are interested in the compilation and analysis of informal sector statistics. Invited presenters and discussants for the conference are known experts in their fields of specialization. To cover the administrative expenses of the conference, the participants will be charged a minimal fee of P200 for PSA members and students, and P300 for non-members.
