Dr. Erniel B. Barrios Receives UP Natatanging Guro Award

Dr. Erniel B. Barrios, Dean of the University of the Philippines School of Statistics and current Editor of The Philippine Statistician received the Gawad Chanselor Natatanging Guro award, UP Diliman’s highest academic distinction for excellence in teaching in simple ceremonies held at the Malcolm Hall Auditorium on February 25, 2010.

The Gawad Chanselor is an annual ceremony recognizing the outstanding performance of UPD faculty, students, research and administrative staff. The award was instituted in 1992, and to ensure that this year’s awardees are truly the University’s best and brightest, the selection process was made more stringent.

Dr. Barrios was one of the (six) 6 faculty members, three (3) students , two (2) Research, Extension and Professional Staff (REPs) and three (3) administrative personnel who were given recognition for their outstanding achievements.

It will be recalled that in June 2009, the UP Board of Regents approved the granting of the “UP Scientific Productivity Award” to Dr. Barrios which consisted of conferment of the title “UP Scientist” and a monetary award which he would receive annually for three years from 2009-2011, unless earlier separated from the service.
