Call for papers for the PSA Annual Conference 2011


PSA ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2011          
“Tourism and Statistics”
26-27 September 2011

Announcement and Invitation:

The Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. together with the Department of Tourism announces that the 2011 PSA Annual Conference will be held on September 26-27, 2011, at Sarabia Manor Hotel, Iloilo City, with the theme: Tourism and Statistics. All government and private sector officials and professionals involved in tourism as well as statisticians interested in tourism statistics are invited to participate in this Conference.

About the Conference:

The objectives of the Conference are two-fold, namely: (1) to provide a forum for producers and users of statistics to discuss relevant issues pertaining to the generation of good-quality tourism statistics; and (2) to serve as venue to celebrate the World Tourism Day through Statistics.

The Conference promises to be special as this is the first time that the country celebrates with the world the Tourism Day. In the morning of the first day, there will an opening program featuring a keynote speech and two plenary papers, one to be presented by the Department of Tourism and the other coming from the Philippine Statistical System. These two papers will show the current state of tourism in the country, and the role that good-quality statistics play in the development of the sector. The first day will end with a cocktail reception and a cultural show in the early evening.

The rest of the Conference will be devoted to presentation of papers on different facets of tourism as reflected by available statistics and various issues related to the production, analysis, dissemination and utilization of tourism statistics. The Conference will close on the second day with a forum to wrap up the issues and recommendation raised during the paper presentations.

Conference Fees:

The Conference fee is two thousand and four hundred pesos (PhP2,400.00). This will cover meals (cocktails, four snacks and two lunches), a conference bag and other materials. A discounted rate of two thousand pesos (PhP2,000.00) will be given for PSA individual members, employees of PSA Institutional members, as well as students. A similar discounted rate will be extended to those who register not later than August 31, 2011. Paper presenters (one per paper) and discussants will be exempted from payment of Conference fees.

Call for papers:

The Scientific Program Sub-Committee of the Conference is inviting papers for oral presentation. Possible topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

     * Employment in Tourism
     * Women Empowerment through Tourism
     * Demographic Profile of Local Tourists
     * Tourism Readiness of Local Government
     * Impacts of Tourism
     * Public Policy on Tourism
     * Agri-Tourism/Eco-Tourism/Medical Tourism
     * Tourism Infrastructure
     * Tourism and the Philippine Economy
     * Gaps in Tourism Statistics
     * Challenges in Generation of Tourism Statistics
 

Those who wish to present a paper should submit an abstract of the proposed paper not exceeding 300 words. Abstracts should be submitted by email in MS-Word format using English Language Times Roman font at the following address by 30 June 2011(Thursday):

Participating papers with more than one author are requested to clearly designate the author with whom the organizers should exchange correspondence. The Scientific Program Sub-Committee will use submitted abstracts as bases to evaluate applications for presentation at the conference. Evaluation of abstracts will be based on:

      *  Quality of the methodology used in the paper as indicated in the abstract.
      *  Appropriateness of the proposed paper for the conference.

The Sub-Committee will inform the authors of the accepted papers for presentation by July 8, 2011 (Friday). The deadline for submission of full papers selected for presentation is on August 19, 2011 (Friday). Papers should not exceed 35 A4-sized pages using 12-point font. Papers should be submitted by email in MS-Word format using English Language Times Roman font to the Sub-Program Committee at the above address. More detailed instructions will be given to the authors whose papers have been chosen for the conference.
